Has anyone ever thought that Kyon might actually be the true "God" of the universe? Thinking about his prologue in the first book, and seeing what's happening throughout the series, maybe Kyon's subconcious wish to be the sidekick/bystander to unusual events and people was made true by him? So Haruhi's powers are really the result of Kyon believing Haruhi has powers because Asahina, Nagato, and Koizumi have told him so because they believe Haruhi caused all sorts of weird events, but Kyon is really the one who made them think that Haruhi made those weird events happen? Basically, Kyon usually gets what he wishes for throughout the series, and it has been a childhood, repressed wish of his to be the sidekick to some weird anime-type hero with weird powers; which is coming true because he is Haruhi's sidekick. But Haruhi's powers really come from Kyon, because he wants to be the sidekick, and she is the creation of his mind as someone who has these powers that enables him to be the sidekick. And all the weird events that happen that are blamed on Haruhi are really caused by Kyon believing Haruhi has the capability to make these weird things happen. Also, rather than calling Haruhi a god, wouldn't she be more a demon or fallen angel?
Kyon's importance is kinda implied in Boredom, the tanabata one, when koizumi was talking about kings and queens.
Well I came to the same conclusion. It's Kyon who gets everything he wishes for, not Haruhi. I mean, where's the fun in being a God while even not knowing of your own powers? Considering the words Kyon said in prologue of the first book, something like "I always wished for time-travellers, espers and the like to appear in front of me, but eventually I grew up and understood that these are not the part of our real world", it's clear that the whole Haruhi thing is the product of his own subconsciousness, which are looking for the way to manifest Kyon's true Haruhi-like nature while preserving Kyon's usual sarcastic and cynical way of thought. Basically, Haruhi is Kyon's inner nature, which is projected through his powers onto someone who is by his side, allowing him to remain in his usual cynical mood while receiving all the fun his inner nature wishes for him. Plus, as a bonus, comes the ability to criticize somebody other than himself for his own faults. Now all the responsibility for his inner nature's unusual actions lies on Haruhi's shoulders.
I highly doubt it. Everyone (including the reading/viewing public) is already heavily invested in Haruhi being the "god"--it's her picture that's plastered all over the mainstream--and it would be an utter cop-out if it turned out not to be true, much like that "Who Shot JR?" thing in Dallas and end of St. Elsewhere. No one would want that. Plus, if he were the god, why wouldn't he make things easier for himself? Unless he's severely masochistic, he wouldn't wish for half the stuff that happens to him (being stabbed, nearly driven crazy by timelines and alternate dimensions, being trapped in fantasy worlds, Itsuki's repeated violations of his personal space, etc.). No, I think his supposed "omnipotence" comes from being the narrator of the story, as all narrators from every other story since creation tend to come off.
>>330You, sir, win the internet. <3
>>330 he doesn't/can't do that, because then he'd know the truth, that he is god, and then he wouldn't be the sidekick anymore. his subconcious mind makes bad things happen to him so that he doesn't think about himself as being god. or maybe having bad stuff happen to you is more exciting than not? for example, look at how bored haruhi often is, and she's the only one who's not part of his wacky escapades. but in the end, does it matter? if god says you are a god and he is not, that's the way things are. or maybe haruhi subconsciously knows what kyon wants, and is giving it to him.
Kyon = god because he does nothing, god IRL(lets just say he exists for the sake of argument) also does nothing.
>>335Beg to differ. I think the world would have collapsed in on itself if Kyon "did nothing", and the novels would not have been half as entertaining. Most of the time Kyon is the one running around trying to keep reality from shattering.
