Nah, it started MUCH earlier, the first pics came out while it was still airing. First pic I saw was genderbent Tsuruya, then a bit later genderbent Kyon and Itsuki in bunny suits.

The design that's now accepted as Kyonko came more than a year later. That was just what made everyone say "yeah this is IT" and it really took off.

the only gender bending im really a fan of is kyonko and maybe itsuki. not really a fan of haruki and whatever the rest of the cast is. I would rewatch the entire series if she replaced real kyon, even though it means haruhi would be full blown lesbian but thats not a bad thing :)

I always wanted it to be Haruhi surrounded by a harem of guys, mainly because Haruhi's not like most characetrs in, well, any anime.

Even a Tsuruya sidekick would make that show nice.

My only problem with Kyonko is that she's really Haruhi Fujioka in another dimension, and with a different background. Aside from that: Kyonko and Fujioka Haruhi are roughly the same.

Oh yeah my bro recently discovered a beautiful work of musical art which is titled Suzumiya Haruhi no Gensou or Orchestraion of Haruhi Suzumiya. It's an album in which the ever talented Tokyo Philharmonic convert music from the show into Orchestra pieces.

One such beautfiful track is the Haruhi no Omoi which is the BGM that plays during the umbrella scene in Someday in the Rain. It's a beautiful track and reflects the magic of that scene and increases it tenfold.

Some who have heard it would consider it the unofficial love theme of those two. lol.
