I've never heard japanese people called "yellow monkeys". However, asians are often called chinks (for the chinese), gooks (for the Vietnamese, Korean, and every other asian group nobody cares about). As for the Japanese, i've never heard a racial slur for them. "Japs" might be considered one, but it can also just be a way of shortening Japanese.

Get your racial slurs in order. Gooks applies to Koreans only. Its a shortening of 'Korean' in Korean. Japs is a slur, or at least it pisses the shit out of every one I know. Viets, etc.

During the Vietnam War, the Vietnamese were often called gooks. You're probably right about the whole gook = Korean for Korean thing, but racists don't care. It's insulting all the same.

I've read manga that use the term "yellow monkey" coming from Americans, so I guess Japanese think that we call them that... but it doesn't really ever happen.
